Where the Wild Things Are Project - The Nomad Cinema

I am actually fit to burst! I am so excited that I can share this project I've been working on.

Back in July I was approached by Juliette of The Nomad Cinema about designing some products to sell at their outdoor cinema events. For those not in the know, The Nomad Cinema is an incredible summer long event, showcasing films at outdoor venues around London. The events are beautifully curated, and have top notch food and drink on offer, so it's more of an 'experience' than your typical trip to the pictures.

After exciting discussions, I chose 'Where the Wild Things Are' as my first project to work on, as it's one of my favourite films. I started brainstorming ideas around the themes, and products that I could make.

For me, the real message in this film (and of course the book!) is about bravery, self discovery, being ok in your own company, and making new friends.

The fabric I used for this moodboard is some I bought a while ago, and used various techniques to get it looking muted and rich in colour, just like the colour palette of the film. I will be making a limited number of products using this fabric too.

I have taken some of my favourite lines from the films and put them on badges. On the night of the screening I will be there with my badgemaker, with a number of premade templates of different quotes so customers can select their favourite and then choose whether they'd like a badge, magnet, keyring or pocket mirror which I will make there and then. The mini badges will be made in advance and will be strictly limited.

I will also be making limited edition notelets using some of the wonderful quotes too. There will be plenty more different ones available, I just artworked a small selection so I could pop up some images to shout about this very exciting project!

Pending the reaction to these products I've designed exclusively for the event, I may pop a few in the etsy shop - let's see!

I will have selected other Oh Squirrel products with me on the night too, however if you are coming along and want something in particular please can you drop me a message a day or two before to avoid disappointment.

Very excitingly, 20% of all products sales at this event, whether these particular items or my own Oh Squirrel lines will be donated to charity. The chosen charity is The Sustainability Project which works with developing areas in South Africa, providing communities and individuals a chance to learn and improve their lives and communities. I am thrilled to be able to help support such a worthy cause.

So, if after that you fancy coming along (and what more fun can you have on a Wednesday night!) - here is the information:

& just a note to say, these products are inspired by the film, and are not official merchandise of the film itself. That's pretty obvious but I just wanted to be clear!
